The University of Hong Kong -Zhejiang Institute of Research and Innovation (HKU-ZIRI) is a strategic initiative of the University of Hong Kong in an important location and was the first research institute set up in mainland China. Being an integral part of HKU, ZIRI is committed to building a base for interdisciplinary talent attraction, cultivation, and cooperation; creating an open research ecosystem for knowledge innovation, technology transformation, incubation and consultation; fostering an international cooperation platform integrating resources, focusing into the future, and aligning interests of companies and university. ZIRI is devoted to accelerate the translation and transformation of research findings, enhance the quality of living, and create the environment for sustainable development.
HKU-ZIRI aims to establish a fundamental platform integrating Advanced Materials, Advanced Characterizations, and Smart Manufacturing; to enhance the advancements of Energy & Power, Environment & Resources, Medical Interface and Data Intelligence; to contribute to the ultimate goals of Smart Health, Smart City, and Smart Connectedness, fostering a multidisciplinary research ecosystem, and to serve as an important base of “Learning-Research-Techtrans” for HKU in mainland China.
Integrating the rich culture and resources, ZIRI will take root in Zhejiang, engage widely in the Yangtze River Delta. Riding on the tide of the vibrant local industry, including new energy, new materials and the digital economy, ZIRI will gel advanced developmental concepts and frontier technologies to develop cost-effective solutions for the grand challenges faced by mankind, such as climate change, environmental pollution, energy security and human wellbeing.
